The Mulberry Tree was built and owned by William Bulmer, a local builder with a builders yard nearby in the 1820's when it was the opened as The Cleveland Hotel and it remained in the Bulmer family until 1874. It then became the North Eastern Hotel, named after the local railway company before it became GNER. Closed in the early 90's, it was then re-opened as The Mulberry Tree!
